I've been enjoying mercing myself out and lately have been getting hired by newer corps barely setting their foot in PC. I even got to watch a corp get their cherry popped with getting ob'ed by the enemy in ground spawn at beginning of match for first time. While I am grateful to be trusted by being ordered to simply "do my thing," there are so many things a derpship can do, and I will like to discuss a few. Now, many of you probably already know what one might call "common sense" objectives but if you guys like the intel, I will eventually move on the more complex objectives with that goal that you learn something new about derpships.
Let's start with its role specific objective. Transportation: While many corps like to use the derpship to transport mercs at the beginning of the match, many forget that it can transport mercs throughout the match just as effectively. More important, since time passed since a derpship spawned, it can just as easily pick up blueberries as it is to pick up squad mates since the lock timer has passed.
Some scenarios, taking mercs to reinforce a friendly objective getting over run (why die and spawn when you can save a clone and simply be flown their faster than spawn timer), likewise evacuating mercs that have to abandon an objective (a living merc is more effective than a dead one waiting to spawn somewhere else) that's getting overrun.
Flanking objectives. 2 seats equals 3 man assault squad. (Very effective in outside objectives). 2 mercs go hack objective with ADS Covering as support. Have uplinks? 2 mercs will frontline attack as more mercs spawn to clean up mess. Or drop slayers to clear towers and roofs from forges so I may rain down fire near objectives.
And a rare case but could turn the tide, AV squad, forges love to guard objectives from roofs and towers. But you don't always need 2. By taking a forger or any AV merc, we can drop on top of vehicles and assist our tanks from enemies on top of mountains or near redline. They won't see us coming.
Infantry support: Pushing forward? Derpship can pave the way by removing enemies from the path towards objective making it easier to get the objectives faster. Want to hack? Derpship can cover the hacker from invisible enemies spawning in close to try to kill hacker. All mercs are dead and they gonna hack objective a derpship with precision can shoot anything by the terminal long enough for a new squad to spawn in and save it.
Vehicle support: Tanks getting harassed? Derpships can bombard enemy vehicles as friendliest get away. Don't want enemy getting away? A derpship can get into position a couple of meters above enemy tank outside their line of sight and coordinate a joint attack with rail tanks. A large rail turret + small missile turrets hitting at once are much better than rail alone.
And lastly, and most overlooked, Reconnaissance : Who needs scanners when you got a recon derpship? Scanners are limited by range, cool down, and squad only. A recon derpship on the other hand can be your eyes and ears. They have the best view of everything going on in the battlefield. They can coordinate attacks with tanks or warn friendly tanks from going into a trap/ambush. They can provide intel on enemy forces, lavs trying to sneak behind our lines or seeing a big push to one objective.
These are some of the most basic yet effective roles of a derpship. I figured it would be easier to post them here. It gets tiring trying to relay feedback to every FC After every match. I would like your feedback as well, if you feel it will be beneficial to continue explaining derpships in terms of PC I can continue to add more. Please provide your feedback.
Things I will like to discuss: How to counter derpships? How to communicate with derpships? Tactical strategies implementing derpships
And if there is something specific you want me talk about , please let me know.

that goes into scenarios but a quick summary is friendly rail tanks can take shot first and derpship can finish it off in the redline and still get out.

Yeah, in PC, the early moments are critical and Dropships surely have their role. Our SVER directors actually issued a directive a few weeks back that made it mandatory for our PC DS pilots to have a mobile cru onboard. I've been in PC squads where we would spawn directly into a DS at the start of a match. We'd be on the central objectives in seconds!!!
Feck, even Ted, the legendary SVER tanker, has mastered Dropship piloting nowadays. I'm sure some of the old DUST vets will get a kick out of that. He's actually a really good flier.
A good corp is always better with some top notch DS pilots in its ranks.
Like I said, a lot of things I mentioned are considered "common practice" to those that already have experience having a derpship pilot in their ranks. But before I can go to more in dept abilities I first need to establish the foundation to derpship flying.

Guarding a hack or rehack* Also redline railgun tanks can position themselves to dodge friendly tanks without a problem that you are neglecting
I am currently laying the foundation to derpship abilities in PC. Before we can learn to run we must first begin to crawl.... and then walk... and maybe right a bike, hopefully running comes after.
I know every possible scenario a derpship can end up in, but instead of listing them all in a boring rant, I figured I would sub them into categories that relate to one another and introduce them as lessons.
For the hidden rail tank, the strategy of derpship/forger combo could be used... even if it is behind the redline. The sacrifice of the forger will allow our tanks to push towards their spawn and prevent further tanks from being called in. Or if its simply behind a hill, it will it be forced to come out or go furthur back, either way the forger and derpship is enough to take it down though tank support is always welcomed.

Not if you are good at piloting like Sir Snugglies he blows them up b4 any one else gets a chance. The only time i dont drop a tank is if i see him on other team and maybe some other good ADS pilots. Its suicide. I do have a question tho. How many hits can u take from a proto rail with 2X damage mods.? With and without hardners/Boosters/Reppers.?
I don't use hardeners. I tank my derpship with extenders. It works for my playing style. It takes 2 shots to kill my derpship. One shiot will bring me to less than 100 armor... But tanks rarely get that second shot.
dwater wrote: What sensitivity do you play on snuggles?
I think it's at 90 or 100. Though I don't believe sensitivity affects vehicle control. I played with it once and didn't notice any difference.

Precision is key. The faster I can get the enemy in my sights the faster I can move on to next target. Lowering my sensitivity will make it easier for forges to get me. Can't bust crazy maneuvers with low sensitivities.
